Dear Friend:
Your
commitment and support in my past election campaigns have ensured
victory and for that, I will always be grateful. Your friendship
made the difference and allowed me to serve a third term in the
New York State Senate representing the very diverse 21st District
in Central Brooklyn.
But our work is just beginning.
As I face another challenge this Fall, I hope you’ll join
me again. Together, we are going to continue to work and fight for
the issues that matter to our families and future.
I believe, like you do, that what is at stake is worth fighting
for: quality education for our children access to affordable healthcare
for all families; a prosperous economy and a healthy living environment
in which all New Yorkers enjoy clean air, clean water and new energy
solutions.
Record of Accomplishment
During this current term we have already accomplished so much. We
are proud of our achievements, particularly:
- The establishment of a youth-operated green market on Nostrand
Avenue which taught young people the basics of entrepreneurship
while giving the residents of the district access to locally grown
organic fruits and vegetables.
- The launch of an HIV/AIDS Task Force to heighten awareness
of this disease that still ravages our community.
- In my capacity as Chairman of the Democratic Task Force on
New Americans, my office held two Citizenship Drives which assisted
more than 300 legal residents fill out the necessary paperwork
to become United States citizens.
Record of Leadership and Experience
- In January 2007, I was appointed Minority Whip of the Senate.
- I remain the ranking member on the Energy and Telecommunications
Committee and a member of the Finance Committee.
- As Chair of the Democratic Task Force On Alternative Energy
Futures, I continue to work and develop a plan that will provide
affordable, pollutant free energy for the State that ultimately
will be an investment in the health of our families and our future.
- Continuing my commitment to economic development, I have provided
leadership in Albany to ensure that qualified minority and women-owned
businesses have greater access to State contracts.
In these challenging times, it is extremely important that leaders
at every level of government understand what it takes to fulfill
the promise of democracy for the American people. You can help by
continuing to support my candidacy with your friendship and contributions.
I hope I can count on you again to support me in the important goal
of making the lives of those in the 21st District and all New Yorkers
more fulfilling and successful.
Now, more than ever, I am determined to continue making a positive
difference in the 21st District as I dedicate my energy, expertise,
experience and passion for public service to the people of New York.
Won’t you join me.
Yours in Partnership,
