Housing

The 21st Senate District is primarily a residential community with a significant number of large apartment complexes. Thus, the issue of affordable housing is one that is especially worrisome to me. Therefore I have tackled the issue in Albany by:

• Advocating for affordable housing throughout the state 

• Co-sponsored legislation that manages the transition of the Mitchell-Lama Housing 

• Proposed legislation that would increase the Housing Trust Fund to a $100 million 

• Drafted legislation that creates penalties for landlords who refuse to make accommodations for disabled tenants

• Introduced legislation that increases the Homestead Exemption to $500,000

• Voted to increase the penalties and set restrictions on predatory lending 

• Drafted legislation requiring counties to develop plans and task force to address homelessness
