As a member of the Energy and Telecommunications Committee and the Senate Democratic Task Force On An Alternate Energy Future, I have worked with my colleagues to find new and innovative ways to move New York State toward a renewable energy future. Saving energy is more important now than ever. In this regard I have:
- Passed a legislative package that will significantly reduce the costs of energy for homeowners and businesses statewide
- Sponsored legislation for On-Bill financing for Green Jobs/ Green New York projects
- As Chair of the Commission on Science and Technology has focused on helping New York State step up its investment into green color job career paths
- Have promoted investment of affordable, pollutant free energy for the State
- Drafted Article X legislation that would safely site the power plants throughout the state
- Introduced Article VII legislation which ensures community participation in the siting of transmission lines
- Drafted legislation that requires alternative fuels to be available along the New York State Thruway
- Introduced legislation that directs the Energy Research and Development Authority to do a study as to a comprehensive energy plan for the downstate region of the state
- Drafted legislation that creates automatic rate adjustments for natural gas or electric service
