Economic Development

The struggle for economic empowerment continues for constituents of my district as well as the people of this great State of New York. Therefore, economic advancement must be the next big move for our community. Not only have I made economic and small business development high items on my agenda. I have taken concrete action by:

  • Fighting to provide a full-time job at a living wage with benefits for every New Yorker
  • Gave young people in my district an opportunity to become entrepreneurs by operating a Farmer's Market during the summer
  • Ensured that qualified minority and women-owned businesses have greater access to State contracts
  • Voted to raise the minimum wage
  • Established a Small Business Development Center at Brooklyn College
  • Created the Building Blocks Local Development Corporation
  • Sponsored legislation that provides insurance pool for small businesses
  • Created a small business technology innovation program in the New York state science and technology foundation
